• In February-March 2014 Russian military invaded and annexed the Crimean peninsula from Ukraine. The United Nations General Assembly condemns the annexation and calls upon all states and international organizations not to recognize or to imply the recognition of Crimea as Russian territory. Link 1

  • The war had begun in February 2014 and is still ongoing. UN estimates that so far it resulted in over 13,000 conflict-related deaths, over 3,350 of which are civilian.

  • On 17th of July 2014, Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 was shot down by 9M38 BUK surface-to-air missile. All passengers and crew, 298 people, were killed. The Buk missile system used had been transported from Russia into Ukraine on the day of the crash, and then back into Russia after the crash, with one missile less than it arrived with. Link 3

  • 18 Ukrainian colleges are exiled in their own country: nine from Donetsk Region, eight from Luhansk Region, and one from the Crimean Peninsula. Link 4

  • In a statement from July 8, 2021 Ministry of International Affairs of Ukraine restrains official representatives of Ukraine from participation in the International Mathematical Congress 2022 which is held on the territory of the aggressor country. This statement was distributed to universities by the Ministry of Science and Education of Ukraine. Link 5
